Astro CGM 2017 Final @ Genting Highlands Arena of Stars

Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia

So.. hi. It really has been a hot minute.. and I've already broken my 2017 resolution of keeping my blog active. But to be fair, I've been really busy with life and uni (read: falling asleep in lectures) πŸ˜… It's definitely due time for another life update, and what better way than to blog about one of the bigger events in my life that happened recently?

In my previous post, I talked about how my mom was participating in Astro CGM 2017, and since she made it to the finals my family and I (plus Becca, who was here to visit me last month) went to Genting to watch it live on the 4th. I've been to plenty of Astro CGM recordings before but this one was definitely the most exciting!

Spotted the huge billboard advertising the show while driving up to Genting. Yo!!! That's my mom!!!!!

Finally arrived at around early afternoon and we were tired as shit lol. No makeup on but Snow filters always save the day 😌 Hung out at Starbucks for a little bit because we discovered that our hotel room had no wifi..

Since we were still pretty early, we headed to the Arena of Stars to take a look at the venue. They had a whole bunch of hand fans with each of the contestants on them, so obviously we had to take a bunch. Look how pretty my mom is!! 😭 Dear god, if you're out there, please make sure I get her genes. Please. I'm not asking for much ;_;

Afterwards, we went back to our hotel room to get ready and take pictures before the show started. It's been a while since I got the chance to take nice photos of myself so I syok sendiri and had a mini photoshoot in the hotel hallway HAHAHA thanks to my patient photographer Becca who knows my angles 😎

Finally headed down to the Arena of Stars to see the live show! Isn't my family extra and cute af HAHA they made this banner for my mom as well as a bunch of LED boards (which all ended up making an appearance on TV!). Super regret taking so long to get ready and take photos because we were sooooo hungry by then and we didn't realize that we'd only be let out 3 or 4 hours later T__T

Dad, Ian and I brought flower bouquets for mom, since she really wanted them even if she didn't win first place. See my sampat expression here.. HAHAHA

Finally entered! It was my first time in the Arena of Stars and wowwwww it was so big.. I was seriously starstruck in a way - I couldn't believe my mom was going to perform in front of such a huge audience. Like.. what???? My actual mother???? This amazing woman who birthed me???? On that huge ass stage???? INCREDIBLE

So big!!!!!

Sorry this photo abit unglam πŸ˜… My dad & I! Do we look similar HAHA when I was little I was literally a spitting image of him.. whenever I went out with my parents, people would be really amused because I basically looked like someone copy and pasted his face onto mine lolol

My baby brother πŸ˜™ who is not really a baby anymore because he's over a head taller than me and he's still growing fml

It hadn't even started and we were already this hungry T__T See my pau face lolol

My family also went ahead and got a bunch of these cheap, funny glasses off of Taobao so that we could all wear them and look cute lmao. Becca and I picked these purple ones with lights on them but we had a bunch of different types to choose from - all my little cousins got minion glasses -_-

Teeeeechnically we weren't supposed to take photos but look, I'm not really one for sticking to the rules, anyway.. But the show was really good! It was super exciting because Alan Tam was the main judge for the show, as well as a couple of other well-known artists and producers in the industry.. like.. what??? These amazing people???? Judging my amazing mom?????? What universe am I living in wtf this is so damn cool

I think all the contestants did a really great job and they really went all out with this year's show. The backup dancers had some really.. questionable stage outfits, but everyone else looked great and I had a really good time. My mom performed ηˆ±ζˆ‘ηš„δΊ²δΈΎζ‰‹, ηˆ±ηš„ε°±ζ˜―δ½  and Hopelessly Devoted To You, and I really thought that these were some of her best performances out of the entire time she's been on the show. I actually felt really emotional because for the past month or so I heard her practicing these three songs all. The. Time. I even knew all the lyrics because she sings at home so much lolol. I was so proud to hear her sing them again on a proper stage T_T

They also had the mentors of the show perform, as well as a special performance by Alan Tam himself (it was fucking lit btw!!!!). The MCs were also really great (ever since I first met him I've really liked ι’œζ±Ÿη€š lol he damn cute! Too bad my Mandarin sucks and I got no guts to talk to him LOL) and made the show really enjoyable.

I would seriously be okay even if mom didn't make it into the top 3 - the fact that she made it to the finals was already enough for me! So imagine my surprise when they announced the final 3 and my mom was in it.. Not that I didn't have confidence that she would make it (I DID ok lolol) but it was just.. so surreal. It had been a while since I was so on edge - waiting for them to announce the winners after their final performance was driving me nuts ;_;

But SHE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first place mama!!! SEE HER EXPRESSION DAMN CUTE HAHA never seen her this happy before 😭 Also tag yourself I'm my dad's face in the bottom corner LOL

Such a happy moment for all of us 😭😭😭 The biggest goal on my mom's bucket list was simply to enter this competition, and the fact that she pulled through all the way to the final and won the whole things was so damn incredible!! I'm so proud of her.. The fact that she never gave up and chased and reached her dreams at the age of 46 is really inspiring, I couldn't ask for a better role model in my life. I mean, I don't really have any big dreams as of now (no, this is not a BTS No More Dream reference.. though it could be.. lol) but it just goes to show that I could really achieve whatever I want at any age ;_;

It was a really awesome experience and I'd love to come see the show again next year! Even though my mom isn't planning to enter next year's competition lolol I come back to see ι’œζ±Ÿη€š ok πŸ‘Ό

Ok.. syok sendiri again having photoshoot before going back to the hotel room 😬 Really really love this H&M skirt! Makes my waist look tiny and my legs look soooooo slim and long hahaha ok no more being perasan zzz

With that, I'll end the post here T_T Less than a month and a half till 2017 ends (which is insane! Where is the time going?), so I'll try my best to make the most of it and post more regularly. I still have my Europe trip post that I STILL haven't finished lol and a bunch of other posts planned, so stay tuned!
